Default Getting more HP from your 3.8 slug of a motor

So i have been doing a bunch of research - and have some questions some more avid motor heads would be better suited to answer.

lets first run by some stats.. stock motor puts out a whopping 202hp... lame - agreed? (i can see you nodding your head)

RIPP supper charger - brings her up to 240 BHP at the rear wheels (give or take a couple hp) for about $4200 smakers
http://www.rippmods.com/2007_2010_Je...2-sds-stg2.htm

STS Turbo kit - adds @ 100hp for $6100 - fail if compaired to above....

now here is my question... and ill post the obvious before i even ask the question

you get what you pay for
its not a direct bolt on
turbo lag blah blah blah
i dont have the money for a hemi upgrade
im not swapping in a pentastar either

ok...

Take a look at these kits that i found with just a basic search on ebay... pay no attention to the turbo size or anything - but just the basic components included and tell me where sts gets off asking 6k for their mod when they are only @ 500 bucks on ebay.

cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/UNIVERSAL-T3-T40E-63-TURBO-TURBOCHARGER-KIT-FEED-/380350755568?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories &hash=item588eabf2f0

cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/UNIVERSAL-T3-T40E-TURBO-TURBOCHARGER-KIT-PIPING-BOOST-/160520931999?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories &hash=item255fcb0a9f

cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HUGE-GT45-TURBO-TURBOCHARGER-UNIVERSAL-KIT-BOOOST-PSI-/150535827828?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories &hash=item230ca27174

now i understand that it would be a learning experience to get it to work - my questions are:

would you need bigger injectors for installing a turbo thats only going to max out at @ 5psi?
would it throw engine error codes?
how much hp would 5 psi add to this engine?

yes - some exhaust mods would obviously have to be done in order for it to work.. heck, you could even go one better - get 2 smaller turbos and twin turbo the 3.8 - pipped into 1 big intercooler and let her rip.

Now i realize this is a drastic over generalization of adding a turbo to the jk, Just thought id put this on the table to see what responses we get and to see if someone is bored enough to give it a shot... heck - if i get bored enough, for under a thousand bucks, i might give it a shot.

Most super chargers and turbos are not made for specific vehicles. They're taken off the shelf like most other parts then the tubing and brackets are custom fit for the specific vehicle. That's where are the money is involved. The R&D it takes to custom fit the tubing and nailing down the tune to be as safe as possible for a wide range of vehicles while still providing a fair amount of power.

KBB your current jeep and if you brake even or will make a profit take off your aftermarket parts and buy a 2012. You can also try a regear to 4.56's

Hesco does have a 3.8L stroker kit, no warranty.

Guess they decided it was time to get in the game. Last year they announced they would not be making a stroker for 3.8 since hemi was the rage.

you can get up to a .60 over = 4.05L, hmm think I'll keep saving for that Hemi or Diesel...

Yeah, all the mods suck when you look hp vs $$$$
I'm coming into this from the diesel world where hp and tq are cheap!
I sold my 2001 cummins turbo diesel to buy my jeep. I was able to more than double my hp and tq to the ground for less than a $1,000 and still pull 20+ mpg and have great reliability!!!
I sure there was a good reliable, tunable diesel engine for our jeeps...maybe a cummins 4bt???

Unless you pushing 44" tires on dana 60 axles why do you need more than 200HP?

90 HP 22R Toyotas and 2.5L 4cyl TJ's with 35" MT's and lockers crawl all over the toughest ORV trails around every day.

Just curious why people seem to think the 3.8 is such a gutless wonder.
Mine crawls great in 2nd gear 4Lo with 4:10's and does 80 MPH easy on the way home.

Jumping sand dunes or what?

For the $5k to get another 100 HP out of your JK you just buy a sandrail.

i agree with everthing said here other then the 80 mph, I struggle at 70. But I am more then satisified with my jeep. when I go to 37's I am throwing in 5.13's or 5.38's
