Default Extended warranties ARE worth it

When I purchased my 08 JK last August, I decided to purchase a 5yr/100,000 mile $2500 gap/service contract with it. In the months afterwards I began to feel that in hindsight I should not have purchased the warranty, especially after reading some negative posts about them here on these forums. Well today, I am very happy that I did purchase it after all. I just had almost $1500 worth of repairs done to my JK. A few weeks ago my blower motor stopped working and I had no heat, AC, defrost, etc. That was the only repair I initially thought my wrangler needed. Well, a few hrs after dropping my rig off this morning at the "stealership", they called me to inform me that the blower motor, resistor, and compressor all needed to be replaced. They also told me that my rear main seal was beginning to leak and that it should be replaced. Thankfully, everything was covered under my service contract with a business called First Automotive. I also thought I was going to have to pay a $100 deductible, but was told there is no deductible. They told me that if I had no warranty that it would have been around $1500 all together parts/labor. So there ya have it folks, my extended warranty just saved me a ton of hard earned cash. The great things is I still have 4 yrs/60,000 miles to go!! Who knows what other repairs my rig will need!

Yeah, but let's see... What if the water pump or something else breaks within the warranty? What if my AC suddenly stops blowing cold air? What if my transmission suddenly starts grinding gears? What if my brake master cylinder starts leaking? Or what if my 3.8 suddenly dies? In other words, it was worth it IMO. Everything is covered bumper to bumper with the exception of the clutch as it's considered a wear item. On the plus side my dealership is rated the best to buy a jeep in Massachusetts and is extremely mod friendly. They sell used, modded jeeps with service contracts.

That's interesting... everyone always says if you're going to buy one to make sure it's the genuine Chrysler extended service contract.

Hmmmm. So what if it doesnt? Seems like a gamble. You may make it out ahead and you may not. Still happy I canceled mine!!

Take the money you don't spend on extended warranties and put it in the bank. In the long run you will have more money in the account than will ever be needed for repairs. They don't sell those warranties because they loose money on them.

Are you talking about the one on Riverdale Rd? They hardly seemed interested in selling me a jeep at all. They didn't even want to talk about less than the affiliate price so I'm heading south on Friday to order one at a place that is willing to go significantly lower.

Hmmm, my math skills lead me to believe the thread title may be incorrect.

What's the cost of peace of mind? Many people don't have the discipline to save $2500, so financing it with your vehicle payment isn't always a bad choice.

I bought one, main reason: Jeep/Dodge/Chrysler always rank in the bottom 25th percentile in quality. Chances are I'll get my money back. My 95 Neon's extended paid for itself and then some. As did my Prius'.

In fact, I've yet to not have one pay for itself. And I take care of my vehicles.
