Default VDP Stubby Bumper... not just another pic request...

Most of the pics I have seen are on older JK's which have bumpers that have seen some weather and well-intended use [abuse]. Most of them suffer from mis-match of the color of the new VDP caps compared to the "experienced" JK bumper.

Wondering if any of you have done the VDP stubby mod on a newer bumper...

If so, how is the color match?

And now, the obligatory pic request....

i actually just hacked into my stock bumper for the VDP caps. only 2k miles on her so i was a little weary... but what the hell. i read some threads on them before i bought them which some said they didnt match so well. i ordered them and was quite suprised how close the match is. not perfect but very close. they look pretty sweet and seem to offer more clearance too. i am away until tomorrow night but will get u pics asap.

Yeah I second what he said I've had mine on since 1k and now with 28k on her they still look good. The plastic has held up. Granted that could also be from my OCD treatment of the plastic with uv protectant. They match very well for aftermarket.

Default VDP stubby on new 2012 Rubicon

Here's mine installed on 2012 Rubicon. The VDP stubbies, right out of the box, are slightly more greyish than black. Fixed that with the Forever Black bumper & trim dye.

Looks good, do you have a pic from the front?

Also, where did you put silicon?

i dont have a pic of the front.. ill take one tomorrow. as for the silicon, i put a fat bead around the inside of the end cap about a half inch past the rivet holes. i put it on the cap side this way when i push the cap on, the silicon squishes into the cap. as opposed to putting the silicon on the bumper itself and making a mess when i slide the cap on.

Thanks for the pics.. looks fine to me.

The bead of silicone is a great idea. I have a tube of 3M black heavy duty adhesive that would be great for that.
