Default 2008 Manual tranny issue, looking for help/ideas

Hi all,
I was driving my JK to work and noticed a noise when I let off the gas, letting the jeep slow on the engine/tranny. Sounds like a mild grind in a higher gear, but as you get into the lower gears, sounds like a gear grinding. No issues going forward, backward, under power or when in neutral. Only when shifting down without power applied or when taking foot off gas.

I had the jeep sitting for about a month and a half waiting for part (unrelated) from a jeep jamboree I went to. I drove the jeep from there, with no issues at all, about 200 miles. Now I am having this issue.

Any one have any ideas? I have a feeling this isn't going to be cheap.........

Trying to get an idea of when it is happening....? Could you they to explain it differently?
Are you in gear decelerating when it happens? Does it occur when the clutch is pushed in? Is it rotational? Meaning the pitch changes with rpms? How many miles on the jeep?

are you sure this sound is coming from the tranny and not the rear diff? noises from the rear axle have a tendancy to translate well into the cab giving the impression of it coming from the tranny.

Are you sure it's not just all in your head? Both my Jeeps make a bit of a wine when slowing down in gear.

Its happening when I decelerate, clutch engaged. It is rotational. 50k on jeep. When clutch is pushed in, it is less so, but at below 5mph the whole jeep lunges and makes a grinding noise as I stop.

Now you have me thinking.......I have no issues accelerating at all, as long as I keep the rpms up the noise doesn't happen. I don't have an issue in reverse either. I may have to open the diff cover and take a peak...........

There are noises in my head, but these aren't them. I have the wine as well, but that is normal.
