Torn DS Boot / installing new drive shafts
Well, on the first trip wheeling with my new lift I tore my front drive shaft. I knew this was going to happen (2 Door Auto) but didn't think it would be this soon.
I've read on other threads that some folks have run for MANY miles with a torn boot without problems. I am just hoping to get 500-750 miles out of mine since I have a trip that I'm taking the Jeep on next week.
I plan on ordering new Coast 1310 front and rear drive shafts first thing Monday morning. I'm hoping to have them by Friday so I can take them (in boxes) on my trip, just in case. My question is... how hard are these things to install? Do you need any special tools other than what you can find in your standard garage (sockets, torque wrench, etc)?

You are going to need some arm strength to get the pinion nuts loose on each end. I used my impact on the front/front nut, but had to use my strength with a breaker bar on the front/rear nut. You will also need wrenches as sockets don't fit well on the small bolts. Also red loctite.
If you grease up the splines under the torn boot you will be fine on the trip. They run for quite some time when greased. If you have a tear in the boot where the driveshaft connects, then I would not run it very far.
