Aev black pintlers
I am looking at new wheels for my JKU. I like the style of the AEV Pintler and I am looking for input on the wheel. I want black wheels and I know AEV has the new black wheel coming out will it come in a satin black also or just the gloss black in the photo. They are a little more expensive than most of the other wheels I am looking at are they worth it?. I am going to run 35's on 17 inch rims. Any input is appreciated. Thanks 3K91

- The Pintler is "hub centric", meaning the center bore of the wheel is the same size as the hub. The weight of the tire/wheel is mostly on the hub, not just the mounting studs. There are few choices out there that are truly hub centric.
- The valve stem is protected, but it is near the outside of the wheel. This is a design flaw in my opinion (AEV doesn't agree with me). If you use the standard TPMS, you'll break them off every time you get close to a rock. After I broke off the second one, I had them banded inside the wheel and used "shorty" rubber valve stems. No more issues. Removing the TPMS and using something like the Procal might even be better.
- The center cap is cheesy and cheap (as in built, not to replace). Most are.
- Very light weight compared to some. This has the advantage of less rotational mass to get moving, and less unsprung weight. There's a ton of opinions on this, but various articles say unsprung weight is like 4:1 more (or 7:1 or 10:1 or...). To me weight was important.
- I like the look of black wheels, but the Argent is almost the same color as the aluminum itself. After a day in the rocks it's hard to tell from a distance where the scrapes are. With black I would think that the tiniest ding would be noticeable. Some seem to wear the dings as 4x4 merit badges.

I have the ardent and love the colour. Then the blacks come out. I thought that I would just paint mine when the time comes. The prices for these rims are not to bad. I all so thought I should have got the bead locks but the last time being out at 8psi and my mud grapplers climbing the bumper ,not breaking the bead I don't need them

They will rub when you turn without spacers. May or may not be a big deal to you but I know when you can't use full turn on tight trails, in a parking lot or when trying to do a U turn it is a PITA.
