Newbie Question Regarding C Gussets/Sleeves/Truss Kit
Hey Guys,
I currently have a bone stock 2010 JK Sport, 6-speed, 3.73's. Just got my TF BB delivered yesterday and was planning on running 35's. I have been doing a lot of reading on here and have found that opinions are pretty different when it comes to the front D 30 and the upgrades available to beef it up.
Some people say only gussets, some say gussets and sleeves, etc. I have been able to find threads explaining what the advantages of these upgrades are, with the exception of the truss kit. If someone wouldn't mind explaining what exactly a truss kit is that would be great.
Also, I am from New England and hardcore rock crawling will be rare to say the least in my JK. Mostly just trails and mud when I'm not on the pavement. If you guys wouldn't mind giving me your two cents on what combo of upgrades would be appropriate for me that would be great.
Thanks!

In post #4 it has a pic with an axle truss welded on.

A truss might be over kill for a BB on 35s. Being from NH, I figure your going to be running a few hard pack trails with mud holes and the occasional rock or down tree, prob. A ton of power line trails. To be safe, a sleeve or a c gusset wouldn't hurt. The c gusset is a good idea if you know a good welder who can go slow and not melt out your ball joints. Just remember the easier you are on your rig the less you have to worry about bending an axel. Obviously every one has there own idea of what is easy and what is abuse but the east coast trails are usually windy, up and down with out long baja style high speed straight aways. Don't spend a ton of $$ on the front axel either... It's a dead end.
Thanks for the quick replies everyone. It seems like the gussets and trusses are simply exterior reinforcement for the axle. (If that's wrong please correct me).
As far as the assumption about hard packed trails and mud pits you are spot on. I figured that building the hell out of the D 30 would be a waste of time and money, especially because of the level of off roading I will be doing. Do you think C-Gussets should be plenty of support?

Alright, so some moderate welding for each (gussets and sleeves). Thanks for the input guys, it has helped a lot. I'll start looking into the EVO sleeves and C-gussets. Seems like that's what most guys are running.
Until then I'll just take it easy.
PS: Installing my BB and picking up tires/wheels this weekend.
