Default Modified Stock Driveshaft

I just recent lifted my jeep a little over 3 inches. I have an auto 2 door. I have read about replacing the stock driveshaft with a narrower/longer aftermarket. I am wondering if it would be ok to have a local driveshaft extend it to get the correct angle or if the boot would still contact the tranny at full flex due to the shaft just being to wide. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,

maertz

The thickness of the stock driveshaft is the concern, they are way too fat. You can drive fine without that boot, what you want to watch out for is bashing in the corner of the tranny pan. Go flex it out, then crawl underneath and check the clearance. If it's touching, (or even close to touching, since you want a bit of space regardless), you need a thinner shaft.

I will go try it out next weekend. I kind of figured no matter what it might come down to the shaft diameter.

that looks very interesting anyone here done that? Also any chance I could get a picture of all the directions/diagrams having to deal with that issue? I appreciate the info.

Yep. I've seen pics in other threads. Here's one of them: Front driveshaft clearance mod (Post #7)

Trimming / lowering / removing the skid has no affect on bashing in the corner of the tranny pan...

The skid will scratch or gouge the driveshaft below the boot, however, so not a bad idea to do something about it.
