Default Can a 2012 Driveshaft boot get torn with the 2.5-3" lift?

I've been reading about the driveshaft boots getting torn. I've just bought a new 2012 Unlimited and am learning.

I crawled underneath and there appears to be plenty of clearance around the front driveshaft especially around the boot area.

Anyone torn the boot on an 2012?

I am running the 2.5 teraflex coil lift with 5100 bilsteins.. After installing the kit, I have noticed when jacking the jeep up the driveshaft rests on the exhaust.. I'm guessing this would definitely tear the boot if it were in motion at full flex.. Normal driven on the other hand, no issues at all. I installed then Teraflex exhaust extension just to be on the safe side.. This added at least 3 more inches of room.. Hope this helps!

yes. if you install longer shocks with your lift, you will tear your drive shaft boot. if you keep your stock shocks or install a set that limits the amount of droop you have (TF makes a set), you will be okay up to about 2.5" of lift. at 3", you really want longer shocks and you'll have other problems like your cv boot being in a state of pinch - an aftermarket 1310 shaft is what you'll want.

I have been running 4" of lift with 37s for a couple of months now without issues. I trimmed the front skid to give the front d/s a little more clearance. I know it will go eventually, but it seems to be holding for now. New d/s are coming after Christmas.

I have a 2012 with Rk 2.5 max travel terafelx exhaust spacers and some washers under the skid no problem with the boot but the joint where it comes out of the transfer case is almost pinching the boot without flexing so yes it needs a front drive shaft. Be careful on the back i tore the rear boot on the factory e-vap skid put a aftermarket skid on now its good.

you have a 2009, this thread is in regards to a 2012 - there have been significant changes that makes what you have experience not applicable to the question being asked.

having said that, trimming the tranny skid on your jeep won't do anything to prevent the boot from getting torn on the transmission sump pan the first time you flex out your jeep. if it doesn't, your shocks are too short and your jeep isn't flexing as well as it should.

Thanks for the information. I looked up the exhaust spacers. Thanks!

What limits the drop? The shocks or the disconnects? Thanks.

besides the front boot, the rear drive shafts are being torn on the 2012 evap cannister skid.

so you have both ends to be concerned about.

My 2012 with a 3" lift had the front DS hit at full droop. I am going to go with the afe y pipe I think.
