Default $550 for winch & mount or spend it elsewhere?

I have a 2008 JK X with factory front bumper and 2.5 inch budget lift, 1.5" wheel spacers and 285/75-17 tires. I also have factory stepbars. I am on a very tight budget with 2 college kids in the house.

I still have $550 to spend on upgrades and a winch & mount would be nice. Is a $550 winch/mount going to be a piece of crap? Should I spend the money elsewhere? Suggestions?

Most of my riding is southern mountain trails and mud. Not much need for rock climbing in North Georgia.

I went with a smittybilt xrc8 and a mounting plate for about 400 shipped and its done everything I've asked of it so far. Or you could go with bumpers, I put front and rear pavement ends bumpers on for about 425 shipped

Look up the Recon 10500lb Synthetic line winch. Good looking winch and runs about $429.00. Didoutstanding in tests also. This is also next on my list to purchase.

Are you planning on ever replacing your OEM front bumper? If so, don't waste the money on a winch plate and instead apply that money towards a new bumper.
