Default Changing from steel cable to synthetic rope

OK, I'm new to the jeep world. Is it possible to change out the steel cable and replace it with synthetic rope? Is it that easy just to swap the two? I know I won't have the same amount of length but do I need to change anything on the winch or should it be fine?

You can do that all you do is take off the cable and put the synthetic line right back in that same spot and you should be good

You might need new rollers because the rollers might cut the rope.

You will want a hawse fairlead if you have a roller fairlead. It has smooth edges that keep the rope from getting cut and from binding up

Or you can buy the new rollers made for a synthetic rope, if you like the look of the roller fairlead.

I have done it with mine when my steel line got tangled and all f-uped when I rolled it back up. You can get Polyurethane rollers from Daystar made for synthetic line.

I think a roller fairlead could still be a problem at extreme pull angles. I would stick with a hawse.

Thanks for the info. Common sense told me it would be fine but just wanted to reconfirm.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but would you reattach the synth line to the same spot and wind up like its a new line? Or is there a special way to do it for the first 5 layers of the line?
