Default Crager Soft 8's and the new standard TPMS system.

So I'm throwing caution into the wind as a new set of black Cragar Soft 8s 16x8 with 5 inch of backspacing are sitting on my doorstep waiting for me to get home. I plan on running out and immediately putting 285/75/16 tires on them and then on the Wrangler X. After all this planning I realize the TPMS sensors located in the wheels is a standard feature on all 08 vehicles.

My question, or need for input comes from this: Has anyone put on new rims and just left off the TPMS sensors? What happened? I am going for it thinking the light being on won't bother me as I know how to use electrical tape effectively. But what about the dinging? Will it void the warranty?

Any thoughts guys?

Oh yeah, to list the other mods going on this week.... windshield brackets with Hella 500 driving lights, non-factory fog lights, upgrading factory speakers to good ones, putting in Kenwood under-seat amplified bass box, mounting Mopar bike rack to rear tire carrier, and I think thats it for week two of having this great Jeep. My fourth.

Thanks!

The forum member that bought my stock wheels and tires took the sensors out of his stock wheels (he has an 08) and put them in the ones he bought from me. Why dont you have whoever mounts and balance them take the sensors out of your old wheels and put them on the new.

Do the sensors not fit the Cragar wheels?

I don't believe the stock TPMS sensors will fit the aftermarket Cragars. I could be wrong. Its worth looking into though I thought I had read people were having to buy a different type of sensor for aftermarket rims.

Ok I did it. Looks awesome. I think I giggled a little but hide it well. The TPMS sensors are not even blinking. Its as if they were never there! So far I'm good! Going to the dealer today to get the computer flashed for the larger 33 inch tires. I hope this will be the end of the wheels and tires bug for a little bit. And yes, pictures are coming soon. Taking it to our farm this weekend for some MS offroading.

No, kept the sensors with the original wheels. Now I just need to figure out what to do with them. Sell on EBay or what? I figure if I have any issues I'll just go and buy the aftermarket TPMS sensors for Chrysler vehicles and put them on.

Pics are coming!!! That thing looks killer in slate blue and black rims!

Can't wait! Need pics now! Juz kiddin! I'm thinking of black rims too just don't know which to go for. Due to the rising gas prices I'm going to stick with smaller tires though for the time being(31 0r 32"ers). I travel for work.

No, thats the interesting part. The light comes on as it normally would, then goes off after a few seconds and never shows up again. I read before this happened to another person and now I lucked out too!

What I believe is happening is that the sensors in the wheels are "asleep" and wake up when the wheel rotates. This I believe is also why the spare isn't registered or is registered different. The CPU knows what tires are active because the sensors sense movement, and thus begin talking to the CPU. I'm guessing that maybe since the sensors never "wake up" the cpu thinks the tires aren't rotating and never checks the pressure? Since this is a separate system the others are not affected.

Its working great so far with about 30 miles on the tires!
