IMO, I would go rear first if only considering one. Cost depends on auto locking or selectable. Then you have lunchbox and limited slips. Also depends on your type of wheeling, terrain and if you will be driving in icy snowy conditions a lot of the time.

It depends on a lot like mentioned above. I wouldn't want an auto locker in the rear and don't have enough $ for a selectable yet so I threw a lunchbox in the front. I live in AZ and rarely take it to the snow up north. Locking up the front first gives me more benefit for pulling up an over rocks. I would say if you have the money you can't lose by putting ARBs in both, but in my case locking up the front gave me the most bang for the buck.

Lsd's perform better than full lockers in snow/ice on road conditions. Off road I would rather have selectable lockers.
