Default Yukon lockers

Came across Yukon lockers (Zip and Grizzly) and realized very little is mentioned about them. Anyone running these? And any feeback? They're cheaper ARB's and made in the USA.

The zip lockers right? I think the grizzlys are basically cheaper Detroit Trutracs

The Zip is the Air locker like the ARB.The Grizzly is the Auto locker like the Detroit. I had a Grizzly in a D30 in a Cherokee with 35's on it and never had a problem out of it.

They are stout units. The ARB is way stronger but if you do not plan on running bigger than 37s, these are plenty strong.
Would they be considered stronger than the factory Rubi lockers?

In the case of ARB, they copied an old, outdated ARB that was (IIRC) no longer patent protected. This unit had significant issues which is why they changed the design. As for the Grizzley, my contacts at Eaton tell me that the metallurgy is significantly inferior to that used in Detroit Lockers.

Unrelated to the specific products but still interesting, a few years ago Eaton had INDEPENDENT testing done comparing the LSD units on the market. Tested were Truetracs, Eaton Posi, Auburn Pro, Auburn Suregrip and Yukon Duragrip (a knock off of the Eaton Posi). The test was a GM test designed to check wear over extended use. Multiple units of each LSD were tested. The units were tested for 600 cycles.

The TT finished first with zero appreciable wear and finished with a perfect score of 600. The Eaton Posi had 1 failure late and finished at 510 cycles. The Auburn Pro and Auburn Suregrip finished at 307 and 302 respectively. The Yukon Duragrip finished last at 217 cycles.

I understand budgets but I'd rather buy from the innovator than the imitator.

Happy Holidays everyone!

That's great info! For the few extra $$ it takes to get to a Detroit Trutrac or ARB selectables, these Yukons aren't that great a deal. Glad you chimed in!

Great summary Dynatrac.

Sure makes me feel my decision to run TTs that much better.

The shop I go to does both ARB and Yukon lockers. I went with Yukons and saved about $400 per locker. That's a big savings. The shop owner competes and wins many rock crawling competitions on the west coast. He recommended the Yukons to me. He said he has put them in a lot of customer rigs and had only seen one failure. He has a Yukon Zip locker in one of his competition rigs now and is evaluating it. He plays real hard and so far has not had a problem. I've had mine for a couple months now and only used them a handful of times up to this point but have had no issues.

Just my own opinion, but I hate paying an outrageous price for a brand name or a pretty sticker.
