Default Taking off stock antenna

Has anyone ever taken off the stock antenna? I was thinking of doing this and replacing it with a "hidden" one. Then covering the hole with a stock "trail rated" badge like the one on the drivers side. This way the stock antenna would not touch my hella lights that are mounted on the pillars or my lomb risers and it would still have a nice finished look. Thoughts/ideas?

Yeah, there are people that do just what you are saying. Removing the antenna and replacing it with the trail rated badge. I just got one of the stubby antennas from quadratec...dunno if it will interfere with the windshield mounted lights, but its only 9" long
