Default auto with 35" tires and 4.88 gears. Comments please

For those of you that have 35" tires and 4.88 gears with an authmatic, how do you like it for around town and highway driving?

Do you feel like you have more power than when you had stock 32" tires and stock gears?

I would have thought that 4.88 would give you back all your power plus some compared to stock. I have 34" tires and was thinking 4.56 but I need to tow a boat so maybe I should be getting the 4.88 gears?

I have a 2 dr Sahara with a 4 " lift and toyo 35"s and an auto. I live in Utah and there is a lot of altitude changes. I choose to have 4:88 gears installed. I have really enjoyed the change for around town, highway and off road, they are all measurably better. If I had a 4 dr or were going to tow I think the 5:13 would be better. I dont plan on going bigger in tire size but I still find myself locking out the OD. on certain areas. It does have great off the line performance... yes I said performance!!! my daily driver is a Porsche so I had a hard time with the stock 4:10 gear performance..then the tires were the last straw. Good Luck with your JK...

If you have an auto and are wanting to run 35's or bigger, go straight to the 5.13 gears. Thank me later.

Auto, 35" tires, 5:13 gears, 16 MPG, OD works fine, Good trottle response. I'm very happy with this combination.

ok, my tires are 34" so you guys have convinced me to not use 4.56 and go directly to 4.88. I'm never going to put any larger tires on so I think I will be ok with that decision.

are the 08 'x' unlimiteds the same as the rubicons when it comes to gear parts?

This is what I think I need:
Superior Axle & Gear 4.88 Gear Ratio Ring and Pinion for 07-08 Jeep® Wrangler & Wrangler Unlimited JK with Dana 30 Front Axle
Item Number: 52419.950

Superior Axle & Gear 4.88 Gear Ratio Ring and Pinion for 07-08 Jeep® Wrangler & Wrangler Unlimited JK with Dana 44 Rear Axle
Item Number: 52419.954

what about an overhaul kit?

Seriously... go w/5.13's... you will ABSOLUTELY NOT be sorry! My tires are technically 34.7" I believe... so they aren't much different than yours if your's are a true 34".

I want to order soon, do I need one of those overhaul kits? I wouldn't think so.
