Default Rotional clicking noise: not driveshaft boot

Just recently a clicking noise has developed. I have an auto tranny. The sounds occurs is park while revving engine and also while driving, mostly in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear with 2nd being the most noticeable.

Climbing under the JKU the sounds seems to be coming from inside the transmission housing where it meets the engine.

Any ideas what this would be? I'm guessing my factor warranty won't be valid due to my mods.

Also I noticed a very small amount of grease or lube where the front DS meets the pumpkin...thoughts?

I had the same noise and it turned out to be my rear ds. After market d shafts? The grease on the pumpkin sounds like the flanged isn't torqued down all the way. This will also cause vibration when accelerating, (or decelling if it is the rear pumpkin) because you are actually pulling on the f/ds flange, causing it to come out of the pumpkin and wobble. I'm no mechanic though, but you might want to start there, its easy enough to diagnose.

Thanks for the thoughts.

The thing that I dont get and makes me think it's npt the DS is it makes the noise while in park revving the engine. I have factory DS still.

It does not make the clicking sound while in reverse.

I have zero vibration while driving.

Also it is not constant.

It mainly occurs while accelerating from a stop or near stop in the 5-30mph range then it stops the clicking...it really almost sounds like a when u stick a card into a fan just a little more metallic in the click.

It does not occur over 40mph.

I do have one, but that doesn't seem to be the culprit.

In my amateur thoughts it would seem to be something like a torque conveter or flywheel maybe??

It's actual worst when just revving the engine in Park. I got underneath the JK and it seems to def be coming from inside the tranny housing towards the engine, so I guess that would be the front side of the trans.

I will def look that over tomorrow.

I did another quick test, I revved upmthe engine slighty till the noise was occurring, shifted into R and it instantly stopped.

It occurs in both 2 & 4wd.

No other thoughts from those who are way more knowledgeable than I am??

This clicking sound is really pissing me off...I'm hoping I don't need to replace the whole tranny?
