Default Fender flares/wheel wells

So I took of the front fender flares and wheel wells today. I love the look, and while illegal here in ca cops generally let it go.

What I'm worried about are the giant exposed areas in front now. Should I keep the wheel well on but just trim it? Or should I not be worried about damage?

Of the two choices I would choose chopping the stock flares

I ran without front liners for a few months, but trimmed and put them back in for the winter. The rear wells got a good coating of duplicolor spray bedliner.

If you leave it be would you be willing to sell the right front flare assembly?

IMO I don't like the look of a JK w/o fenders/flares of some type, but as another poster said, "To each their own..." But in regards to the "safety" issue, I personally prefer to have some sort of protection there, although even with my cut stock fenders I still get quite a bit of spray and I wonder what it will be like when I increase the tire width soon...
