Not gonna get into a 1s better than another debate but I will say.... I have an 08 with 52k on her and have used Mobil1 5w-30 since she turned 20k. Over 30k of no oil burning and a smooth runnin engine. I use a K&N oil filter also and change them both at 5k.

There is no best. All the well known brands exceed what the Jeep needs.

As to weight, many believe 5W-20 is too light. I agree.
I've been running 5W-30. It is doing well.

Ok thanks
I've got just over 100000 miles on it and it uses about 1 quart every 3 to 4000 miles any suggestions?

I would go with a high milage oil. They are semi syn and work great. 5W30 should do fine. I believe Quaker State, Valvoline...ect all have High Milage Oils.

As long as the engine has 10k or better(thats just my opinion) theres no reason you cant switch from 5/20 to 5/30. I think 5w-30 makes the 3.8 run smoother and other than in the US it is the rec. oil weight for this vehicle.

Ive been using Royal Purple 5W30 oil and filter since 20K with little to no consumption. Retail price is pretty expensive though ($9.29 per qt. at Pep Boys), but I buy online in bulk qty. to save a little money. I don't know if it's the best, but it's pretty damn good.
