Default + thingy / - thingy on gear shifter......and where's the O/D?

Wow! + thingy / - thingy..... Haha! Seriously....I just noticed the +/- sign, don't know how to use it, and where the hell is over drive on automatic 2012 JK's?

**UPDATE**

Thanks for the advise...I was able to execute the procedure with the semi manual gears using +/-.

As I understand it the 2012 is in od(5th gear)unless you shift down(move the gear selector sideways toward the minus symbol and the jeep will drop down into the lowest possible gear relative to the speed you are driving. To go up go toward the + sign...I really havn't found use for it yet...maybe if I was towing.

Are you joking?
It allows you to manually up or downshift. It even shows on the dash the exact gear you are in 5,4,3,2,1.
It's in the manual and user guide.
I love it for off road. Very easy to use engine braking and not ride the brakes all day.

Ive found semi manual shifting to be useful in passing situations to select a lower gear sooner than the automatic kickdown. Its also quite useful in the snow for holding a higher gear or getting a lower one before the throttle on kick down which can break traction.

From my test drive the other week, I could only get it to go from 1st to 4th. When I went for 5th, it put it back into drive... Unfortunately the JK was very low on gas so I didn't play with it too much. I'll really use this feature off road.

Now if only Friday would come so I can pickup the new JK!
Same here, going into 5th puts mine back into to drive.

I use the manual shift to get me through the lull in the throttle at about 1500 RPMs. I hope it doesn't mess with the transmission learning curve. I haven't had the chance to take it off-road yet, but I can imagine that it is going to be quite useful. Mine also does not show a 5th gear. It pops back into [D].
