Default Plasti-dip for a bare steel bumper

Anyone have any insights on using plati-dip for a bare steel bumper? Just ordered a new unfinished bumper. I was wondering how plasti-dip would work for finishing it?

See how it works on something smaller like pliers or just bare metal. I think it would be quite expensive.

I "painted" my JEEP emblem with it and it came out nice BUT it seems VERY VERY easy to peel off. I wonder if sanding it to roughen it up would help it adhere better?

I would definitely test it out on a small flat surface and beat on it to see how durable it is. As already mentioned cost might be a factor too.

Good luck, let us know how it goes!

Is there a specific reason you don't want a permanent finish on it?

Plasti dip is NOT a perminate finish, just a rubber coating that can peel off very easily. The bare steel bumper will most likely still rust if it just has plasti dip on it.

My thoughts were this:
Cheap to do.
Could be touched up.
could be removed if I hated it.
more robust than just paint?
I want a smooth finish not textured.

I will just prolly have it powder coated. I have never used plati-dip, which is why I asked.

The more you spray on, the easier it will be able to peel off (trying to take it off on purpose). I used two cans on all 5 of my wheels and it is still holding up great. If you want to get it off quick and easy, use a power washer

Dude just go get some self etching primer and a rattle can of whatever color you want, you'll be much happier in the end, and it will be cheap to touch up and only being painted once, just paint over it if you dont like it haha. Plasti-dip is great stuff don't get me wrong, I use it myself but I wouldn't use it for a steel bumper
