Bead Locked Wheels Are Not Legal for Highway Use: For Recreational Use Only.

Is this true? Why?

I don't think many are Highway legal. The AEV bead locks are DOT approved.

They say that because the manufacturers haven't paid the money to have them tested for the DOT standards. The nicer ones are generally way tougher than the DOT standards require (that's why they are on race trucks and buggies), and/or have paid for the testing (like AEV). It seems like one other one is DOT approved....

Does "DOT Approved" mean legal in every state, though?
