Lucky me! I have a dana 35!
Hello all-
I just bought an 07 jk x last week and was assuming that I had a dana 44 rear so I didn't even look- especially since the PO said it had a dana 44. Well, just got the build sheet and sure enough it has a "new gen 35"
confirmed it too by looking this evening.
Anyways, got to calling around and found that a local shop has a set of take off jk rubicon axles with 5.13 gears and factory lockers that they will sell me for $700 dollars (for both). Only thing is that the front has a small crack in the pumpkin wear it meets the tube. Rear is fine. Seem like a good deal still? Is this fixable on the front axle without replacing the housing? I figured for 700 that's about half of just what the 5.13 gears would cost. Is this "new" 35 garbage like the old one? (used to have a tj)

Sounds like a great deal. I don't know about welding up that front housing, though. Think I would just spring for a new one for $900ish, or grab a pr44u housing to swap all the components into.
Yeah, I think I'll do it. Just a little hesitant to spend more money after just purchasing the jeep. Don't want to get in too much (more) trouble.... Just wasn't sure how much stronger the 35 was than the old 35- I think I read 18% or something. And for someone who does mild wheeling was also wondering if the rubi axles where overkill. The tubes look to be beefier but that might just be my imagination. Currently have 33" procomps mt's but would like 35's soon. Oh and currently 4.10 axles
