Narrow D60 Swap / Stock H1 questions.
I currently have a 1979 Ford Front Dana 60 stripped down getting ready to start the rebuild process. I have the tone rings mostly figured out as well as the brackets to make it fit in the jeep. I just need to weld on the truss and a few other things before rebuilding the axle itself. I am looking to keep the JK fairly narrow so I can keep it street legal with fender laws here (tread must be covered) and most people I have seen do this sort of swap must not have fender laws or find ways around them but looking for some insight.
Measurements and other informaiton:
69.25" - 1979 Ford Front D60 SRW WMS from Dana 60 bible.
65.375" - Stock JK WMS from http://www.dynatrac.com/pdfs/New_Gen...ison_chart.pdf
3.875" - Difference in WMS.
1.9375" - Difference per side.
4.5" - Ideal backspace (or less) for stock JK
6.4375" Ideal backspace (or less) for 1979 Ford Front D60 SRW on JK
Wheel Tire combination I would like to run:
Stock H1 Wheels 16.5"x9" with 7" Backspace from http://www.trailworthyfab.com/H1-Hummer-Wheels/
Pitbull Rockers 37x1250R16.5LT/E from http://www.pitbulltires.com/rocker_radials.php
I know that the turning pivot point of the D60 will be farther out so I am not sure all of these measurements apply or are accurate for the backspacing requirement. It seems that the stock H1 not recentered may have to much backspacing but the 3.5" of the recentered one will stick out way to far.
Has anyone went this route without spacers or have any suggestions? Other double beadlock options that have a better backspacing closer to the 6" mark?
Thanks

You could always shorten the long side of the housing and get a custom shaft, that way you can get recentered Humvee wheels with whatever backspacing you want that will give your hubs some protection. 6"backspacing with locking hubs and a full floater = hubs sticking out past you wheels.
