I'm sure you could, but the tail gate strut from Woods, has all the bits you need in one place, without having to "find it all"
Works really well for me.

Only issue i have with the woods strut is that I have the g.e.a.r. tailgate storage setup and the strut would be in the way of mounting my molle bags. So I'm also looking for other strut ideas for hood the tailgate strut mount.
