Default Smittybilt XRC-Tow question

I'm thinking of getting the Smittybilt XRC rear bumper. I already have the factory tow package. The XRC has a class 3 hitch as far as I can tell, and the factory one is Class 2. I'm assuming I'll be yanking off my factory hitch to install this bumper, correct? Anything I need to be aware of when making this swap? Thanks.

If it is like my smittybilt src you just unbolt the old one and the bumper slide into where the whole hitch is. I personally like the bumper with the hitch because it bolt to the chassis and to the cross beam connecting the chassis. just makes me feel better that there is more holding on the body when i pull a trailer.
You wont need any other hard wear it just takes a little time bolting up all 4 holes and lining them up right. Having a forklift helped us out a ton!

Thanks for the reply. So you're saying you just left your factory hitch in place, and added the bumper over that, and it fit?

I don't have the tow package but I think it would stay. If not all you would have to do extra is take off a few bolts. The xrc is a great bumper. Not sure about earlier models but on my 2012 to get in the four bolts that go into the crossmember you have to slide them in between the exhaust shield to get them back into the bumper because of the bolt length. Just a hint. And yes, bad spare I know.. Hope this helps

Remove factory hitch. It will not fit with it on.

Thanks for the tips guys. Went ahead and pulled the trigger on a used one. Anyone have a line on a good write up or video for the install on a JK? The instructions of their webs tie are a mess. Cheers.

Not sure about any write ups but if you have and questions feel free to pm me! Just insert the plates in the framewells and pit the four in the crossmember.

I just did my installation. It takes four grade 8 bolts in the center of the rear cross member and two each on the left and right sides. First you slide a plate into the frame (left and right) which has two nuts welded on to provide a threaded hole for the side bolts. Then you push the entire bumper up against the rear cross ember and run the four bolts through the member and the bumper and secure it with nuts and washers. Before you tighten anything make sure all eight bolts are in their locations and started a few turns. Mine did not line up very well, so I had to enlarge two side holes.
You can look at my web page for some pics I took

Got the bumper on this weekend. Was doing it solo, so had a few mishaps (nice scrape under the right taillight), but got it on. What's everyone doing with the third brake light? I have a the tire carrier, so I mounted the bracket where the old tire carrier used to be, but the cable is pretty tight. Anywhere to buy an extension without having to slice wires? I'd actually like to eventually mount the bracket onto the tire carrier.
