Default How would you do an Old Man Emu Suspension "the right way".

I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to do my next suspension upgrade. I know that I'm going to purchase the OME kit. Couple of questions for you JK gurus:

- Opinions on using the OME Trackbar Relocation bracket? (I plan to purchase an adjustable track bar for the front). I trust the guys at OME, and I found the following quote from them, "Our Engineers however felt that under some road conditions the Unlimited models could benefit from the fitment of a Panhard Rod extension bracket kit.

The FK37 (Left Hand Drive models) or FK39 (Right Hand Drive models) bracket kit relocates the Panhard Rod to its original position and helps to improve the ride feel when driving on winding or undulating roads.

While this is desirable, there is no critical engineering necessity to make the Extension bracket kit a mandatory fitment."

Any reason to do an rear track bar, instead of the relocation bracket?

- If I want to fix my camber issues, am I better off buying Upper or Lower front control arms? Any opinion on brands for control arms and front adjustable track bars?

Am I missing anything, in order to do this right?

A relocation bracket will most likely get your axle shifted back to where it needs to be under your Jeep but an adjustable track bar will insure it. Also, depending on where the track bar relcation bracket gets installed (i.e. the axle or the frame), you could have other issues such as breaking of the factory mount (has happend on the axle mount ones).

I'm assuming you meant "caster" and not "camber" as a solid axle will not allow for any camber adjustments but to answer your question, adjustable uppers and lowers together will provide you with the greatest amount of adjustment. If you can only get one and not the other, you should get uppers. As far as brands go, I've been running Full Traction arms for quite some time now and I have been very pleased with them.

Am I missing anything, in order to do this right?

The OME lift will yield you closer to 3" of lift and if you don't have them already, I would highly recommend that you install a set of rear brake line extension brackets. Since you have a Rubicon, I would also recommend that you get longer rear sway bar links installed and then install your factory ones up front.

I have the same concerns I have the OME kit and would like to do it the RIGHT way, I was think of ADJ track bar Front & Rear.. I am hoping with the wieght I will add with bumpers wwilderness rack and larger spare, that it will bring my lift to 2-2.5" HOPING... I didn't want 3"+ of lift.

What the hell is a Panhard Rod? is that the trackbar ?

Yes - just a different name for it.

I have a 2 door X, do I still need the longer sway bar links? If I do, what do you reccomend, I can find them for 3-4 inch lifts but not for 2.

What would you add to the OME lift yourself?
Would you run it as is or tell me what to order....

Thanks!
I want the best road ride possible.

Haven't thrown on the kit yet... Still trying to decide on which tires.
Im gonna run 33's possibly 34's and a MT which I will have the center
lugs sipped on yet still can't decide which! If the KM2 is out in the 33 or
34 yet I think Ill go that way if not possibly the ProComp Xtreme MT or
the Goodyear MTR but I just hate spending that much. Too bad Discount
Tire no longer carries Toyo, they say the could never get em to run and
balance right????

I was wondering this very thing myself! I'm pretty new to the Jeep community and have only wheeled in stock to mild Landies in the past. I used the OME kits all the time on my Rovers and loved them, but the Jeep is an entirely different machine. On a Rover I would just remove the Swaybar (permanently), install the lift, and be done with it, but it seems like a Jeep needs a little more love to be lifted and drive right.

Control Arms? Trackbars? If they are truly necessary I'm wondering why OME doesn't include them in their kit...ARB offers pretty high end stuff, you would expect them to give you everything you needed to have a great ride on and off the road.

It's hard for me to say for sure what all I would run in addition to what the OME kit comes with right out of the box as I typically like to add things as I need them. When I ran my TeraFlex 2.5" BB (about what the OME kit will yield you), I didn't have any handling issues that would warrant any additional components per se. Granted, both front and rear axles did shift due to the lift, it wasn't enough to cause any problems. However, if in fact the OME kit yields you more like 3" of lift, I would probably say new adjustable track bars are something I would get with my kit.

Could be because the idea of "necessary" is often times subjective to the person driving the Jeep. OME is a good company and not really the type to cut corners so it could be in their opinion that these items are not needed.

Woods,

Good thread - these are exactly the same questions I wanted to know before I ordered the OME coils -

Who makes the best/or/most popular adjustable track bars for the JK?
