Default Getting ready to order. What to expect?

So I was saying in a few other topics that I am looking for a Rubicon Unlimited in black forest green and black / dark saddle interior.
With the options -
6spd manual,
leather w/ heated seats,
connectivity group,
dual top,
430N media center,
max tow package
and a/c auto temp.

I had 2 dealers 500 under invoice and one of them went to 700 under. I then got a quote from a very local dealer, a few miles away, and they said they can do 600 under. I told them that I am good with that because it saves me time and gas from going to the dealer that was farther away (over 20mi.) that quoted $700 under. Not a huge difference in distance, but not a huge amount of money to quibble over either. The dealer did admit that the amount ($600) under invoice was half of his holdback, which is accurate.Holdback being 3% of MSRP for the vehicle & options I picked is $1167. Seemed fair to me and the dealer.

However the dealer also brought up the point that I would probably pay more in doc fees at the other dealer (NJ) than their dealer (NY) because the doc fees are not regulated in NJ and they are regulated in NY. If the NJ dealer charged $300 in doc fees and the NY dealer charges $75 (the dealer told me that's what they charge), than I would spend $125 more at the NJ dealer who quoted me $700 under invoice.
One question I have is, are the regulated document fees in NY $75? Edmunds says they are $45 in NY, but they were updated January 18, 2011 on the site. Perhaps they changed this past January. I don't know why the dealer would be dishonest about a $30 difference in doc fees if they thought I could obtain that information. Its not worth lying about a $30 extra profit. I was also told that they charge $300 in DMV fees (title, reg & plates) + $12.50 for a temp plate and $12.50 for tire tax. DMV, temp, tire tax & doc fees total $400. A nice round number. I didn't order yet, but did receive a print out for a break-down of expected charges.

Tire fee of $12.50 and the temp plate charge of $12.50 seems legit. $75 doc fee seems fair, but is the NY regulated charge still $45? Also when he added sales tax to the vehicle he taxed the price of the vehicle plus the $400 DMV and document fees, but added somewhere in the realm of 7.32% for NJ, while sales tax in NJ is 7%. He said its something about an extra charge for gas tax for vehicles that don't get as good mileage. Anyone know what that is or if the rate is accurate?

Beyond that those were the only fees he said to expect. However could anyone give me some info on what to expect from the dealership if I go to order the Jeep? Something like, agree upon the price and maybe a deposit. Should there be anything for me to sign and what paper should I look to get from the dealer to guarantee the price when the vehicle arrives? Any other info to make my first new vehicle order go smooth? Yes I am a newbie to buying new cars, but not this forum. Thanks.

Surely someone here has some ordering and buying experience. With all the talk on here about JK orders. I'm basically looking for an overview of what to expect when ordering. I would like to do this tomorrow. A lot of this may be very basic, but I want to make sure that the fees seem alright even though I won't be paying for them until delivery and also any papers I should be signing or the dealer.

I can help with at least some of this I think. First off since state's are different as far as DMV and doc fees, etc., I can only share my experience in OH. HOLY CRAP $300 in DMV fees + other stuff?! I paid $30.50 for my title/tag/DMV fees. That should be easy enough to check though, call your DMV. Heck, call another dealer in NY and inquire about DMV fees. I don't remember if it was taxed or not, but obviously the $30 taxed or not was not breaking the bank in my sale.

ok just found this site, saying $75 for NY: hxxp://blog.truecar.com/2011/07/26/which-additional-fees-should-i-pay-at-the-dealership-what-is-the-doc-fee/

Doc fees... Here in OH they are capped at $250, and the salesman flat out told me after I questioned why so high, that they should just call it dealer profit... ok whatever, we worked out a good deal, and every OH dealer does it.

He could be talking about the gas guzzler tax, which looks like it is paid by the manufacturer... You'd have to do more research on this. hxxp://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/info.shtml

I have read everyone's experience is slightly different. When I ordered my Jeep, I think I put down $250, and I think I signed a sales contract. I made him put the deposit was refundable. I left that day knowing my out the door price and both parties were happy (I ordered back in July and got 2% below invoice with tread lightly... a good deal back then when they were just coming out).

Hope this helps a bit... by the way, google is your friend. Good luck.

Thanks. Yeah I did plenty of google searches. Of course DMV fees are easy to find. Actually I forgot to figure a 4yr registration cost for NJ. As far as the extra percentage in sales tax for gas mileage, I have not been able to find much. I'll ask them more about it today.
I was planning on having them sign a paper stating the agreed upon price and that the deposit is refundable, I just wasn't sure if there was any name for that particular piece of paper.
