Default 35's and 3:73's with the new Pentastar and 5speed Auto. Opinions Please!

4dr Rubicon on order with 3:73's and the 5 speed auto. I'm forced to drive on the highway quite a bit and our speedlimit is 75mph which means I'm doing 80mph often. With 35" tires this will put me right at 2300rpm. Not bad and well into the torque plateau, but damn I hate to destroy my offroadability. I'm probably not going to be doing a ton of Rock Crawling, as I plan on doing most of my offroading expeditioning.

I guess I'm just wondering also how it'll feel around town and I'm curious as to what kind of mileage you guys are getting that have the 3:73s and 35's with the new powertrain. The torque curve on the pentastar is fantastic, coming up to 90% at 1800ish rpm.

I know 35's and 3:73's were terrible with the old motor/auto, but how bout the new one? I've searched and read and really just can't find anyone posting actual experience with the new setup.

Any and all information will be greatly appreciated.

I think you will be fine. The new automatics are amazing with bigger tires.

You ordered a Rubi with 3.73's? Why?

I just put 315/75/16 duratracs on my Rubi with 3.73s. It loses a step off the line, but not a big step. It does fine on the highway. I also do a lot of highway driving and 80 MPH is no problem. I am supposedly getting a shade under 15 MPG, but I haven't procaled it yet to account for the tires. Procal is on order.

Yesterday was my first somewhat of a long distance highway trip since I put my 35's on and was up to 16.8mpg at 70-75 mph for the trip... I was very impressed!!!!

2012 Rubi with 4:10's... I'd like to put in 4:56's though to get back my off the line kick that I had with stock tires...

Guess I skipped over the reasoning for some reason.

Good luck! Hope the math is correct.

Discussed many times, but I'm running 3:73 with 35 duratracs and personally I think it sucks but for now I'm getting by. I'm not happy with the gas mileage either since even though I used the Procal it doesn't shift where I think is the most efficient. Bottom line is its ok, but not optimum. In my opinion.

Waiting for cash for a front axle upgrade before I change gears. Once I do that going 4:56 probably.

Id probably just go back and change the order to 4.10s. If you find that is too tight for highway use which I doubt you will, you could then always just put on 37s.
