Anti-Rock vs. Disconnects for 2012 JKU
Hi all, I am very new both to this forum and to owning a Jeep (2012 Sahara JKU for just over 2 mos). Needless to say I love the car and took it out for my first off-road venture in Azusa Canyon a few weeks ago and had a blast. I did learn, the hard way, that the sway bar links can easily be damaged, since I had no idea I was supposed to disconnect them.
In any case, since then I have been reading up on thread after thread about the Teraflex DQ's, JKS DQ's, and Currie AntiRock bar. Most everything on these products seems to have been placed on TJ Wranglers or JK Wranglers prior to 2012. The most concerning thing I read about the DQ's was that at full wheel turn I may eat into my tire's sidewall (but when I turn my wheels all the way, I cannot see where this would happen on the new JK, as there seems to be a bunch of clearance).
Anyway, my JK is stock and I wanted to know from more experienced JK owners what they would go with (DQ's vs AntiRock) and why? Also, if you recommend DQ's can you please comment on whether you would go with TF or JKS on a stock 2012 JK and why? FYI, this is my DD and i would say i plan to take it off road maybe 4-6x/year. Thanks so much everyone!

Well, I'm going to assume that you don't have a Rubicon as they come with electronic disconnects. Having said that, I just wanted to make sure that you knew you could always just disconnect your factory links at the axle and then strap them to the sides of your frame rails for free. If you're still running a stock height Jeep, I would save your money on disconnects until you are lifted.
Having said that, an anti-rock will allow you to obtain good flex on the trail without having to disconnect and provide better stability but, because it uses a softer sway bar, your handling on pavement will not be as good as if you were still running a stiff factory one. in truth, you would only really notice this is a quick evasive maneuver, driving fast on a windy road or, even under heavy winds. for me personally, i would stick with the factory sway bar and just disconnect.
Assume that you are still running factory wheels and tires, the back spacing on the wheels will be great enough that if you rotate your sway bar and links all the way up when disconnected, they will get in the way of your tires when fully flexed and turning. this is where you can get a blowout.

You really shouldn't have any clearance issues with a stock setup regardless of what setup you run. Clearance issues start when you start going to bigger/wider tires.
The biggest question you'll have to answer is the extra money for the Antirock setup worth more then having to get our of your jeep and removing your disconnects when you go wheeling. To me, i like the extra cash in my pocket so I went with quick discos.
I cant speak to either of the brands you mentioned, but I run rough country quick discos and have never had a problem with them. Cheaper then either of the options you mentioned as well.

Hey guys, thanks a lot! Wayoflife, you are correct, I do not have a Rubicon, I have a Sahara. If I do as you recommended and just disconnect the factory links, how would I keep the swaybar horizontal (as recommended in other threads so as to minimize chances of sidewall blowout)? Again, thanks guys!

these posts are attached to the bottom of the forward most body mount and, depending on how big your tire is and how much back spacing you have on your wheels, it'll dig right into them. trust me, i speak from experience. while the TF discos are in and of themselves just fine, i would recommend against using the storage pins, depending on your sitiuation.
Every ones has given you great advise, let me give you one more. Your not driving a car, your driving a JEEP.
LOL. Quote (Needless to say I love the car and took it out for my first off-road venture in Azusa Canyon).

hahahaha you beat me to it, I was thinking the same thing!
I really want the Currie Antirock F/R sway bars but, it's hard to justify the expense when I have two perfectly good sway bars. Hopefully they somehow break soon ;o)
Either way, I use the RK discos that came with my lift...Quick pull up and a zip tie and I'm good to go!
My buddy sent me these yesterday, he wheels his stock JKU pretty hard.
