Default Ring and Pinion swap question

Looking at some first mods and I need some details before I empty my wallet.

I have a 12 JKU sport with an auto and 3.21 D30 front and D44 rear etc.

Getting ready for tires, lift etc. is there a difference in the diff cariour ( sorry for spelling error ) between ring and pinion sets ranging from the 3.21 /3.73 /4.10 /4.88. The reason for asking, before taking anything apart I kind of want to be able to reassemble at the same time, with no suprizes and all the stuff and parts to be ready to go!

You need a new carrier for the front.

Default gears

i think the carrier brake point is at 3.73 so if you really have 3.21 s then i would think you need a new carrier front and rear

Dana 44 (rear) carriers are the same in a JK, regardless of ratio.

That's how they're described by Eaton, but the terminology is for D44's prior to JK. All JK's use aftermarket carriers for 3.73 down. All JK's are "thick ring gear" and use that carrier.

If you'd like to verify what I'm saying, find postings by user "Dynatrac" on the subject.

So correct me if i'm wrong,
but any change from the 3.21 requires a new carrier.....

or can i do 3.73 with the stock unit.
see if I can keep the stock unit then 33's and 3.73 is in order ASAP
if i need a new carrier, then may as well get a locker, 4.88's and 35 in tires, but i will need to save my pennies for a while longer.

It is the thing in the diff that holds the ring gear and the spider gears, then the axle splines slide into that. Some are open, some are built with clutch packs so that they lock, others are full lockers. Google image a differential it should make sense
