HELP!! Locker Pad Lock "Light Show" Post Rear Axle Install
I have read many of the existing threads regarding blinking pad lock locker lights and we have tried the solutions. Unfortunately, none of them have resolved the problem. Here's the background.
Have 2008 Rubicon, running 37s with 5.13 gears. Broke rear driver side axle a couple of weeks ago. Axle broke inside the carrier assembly. Purchased chromoly USA Alloy axles as replacements. I have a mechanically inclined friend who did the install. Install went fairly well; put everything together and went for test drive. Got the dreaded rear blinking pad lock light. Front worked flawlessly during this test drive. Mechanic is baffled, felt he did everything correctly. Searched the forums and came across the rookie plunger mistake problem. Sure enough, appears that we fell victim to this newbie mistake! Broke down the rearend again in hopes to seating the plunger correctly. At this point, we were able to manually manipulate the plunger (with pumpkin open) and was able to see the locker light go from blinking to solid to off again without issue. Therefore, it appeared all that was needed was to reinstall differential assembly with the proper orientation of the plunger. So, he reinserted correctly.
Before buttoning up the rearend again after second install, we raised all four wheels and tested system with the pumpkin open; however, no joy. Blinking light still exists!! He continues to try to troubleshoot while Jeep was on jack stands (all four wheels up). Both lockers are engaged and disengaged during testing/troubleshooting, but we only get blinking lights. Was receiving 12 solid volts to the "coil" during the troubleshooting while system was "open," then when reassembled; now it appears we are not getting any voltage. Furthermore, eventually BOTH lights begin to flash (unsynchronized) and neither now will "lock" by light. All we get are alternating front/rear flashing pad lock lights. Additionally, the lockers do not appear to be physically locking.
Read in some threads where that if there is a wiring issue, it can cause the computer to not send the proper signal, causing the computer to believe that the transmission is not in 4 low, therefore preventing it from locking. Is the computer confused and shut off the signal (i.e. hence the no voltage issue)? Or is there now a wiring issue causing the system to not put out any signal to engage the lockers? Is there a master computer reset/reboot process?
Please help!! It's doubtful that the dealer will have much experience with this kind of issue. So, we are looking to the vast experience on this forum for an answer! Any comments/suggestions would be greately appreciated. We are retiring for the night, and have disconnected the battery in hope of a reset. Will try again in the morning; praying that the battery disconnect will lead to some level of a reset or the Jeep Gods have "healed" it!!
Again, suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!! Thanks...
