Default Rock Krawler Long Arm 3.5" - question on HD drag link

I am inspecting my JK now after this kit has been installed by a shop. As it turned out, they had an older (half year old to be precise) version of the kit, when these kits did not come with HD drank link + over the knuckle relocation bracket, as the kits that are sold today. I would not put much of a blame on the shop, they really did not know that such a difference exists between kits - they just happened to have that kit in stock in their warehouse. Anyways, I immediately noticed that the drag link is still the stock one. Everything is already welded on and installed, so I can't really cancel the deal. Question: is the HD drag link worth to fight for? They did give me a better price for the kit (it's available at $2600 in most places, they sold it to me for $2400 - apparently w/o the draglink). They agree to get the drag link for me for the extra $200 now. Worth it ?

thanks for any advice !

P.S. I contacted Rock Krawler and they confirmed that HD drag link is the only difference between older and newer versions of the kit

I can feel your pain. I ordered a rock krawler kit from rock krawler mid December 2011. Got it mid January which was no problem. But as I start figuring out have the kit is new stuff and half is old stuff. Front track bar has a shank that is 7/8 the back is the smaller I think 3/4. Half the joints are the generation 3 that you don't need to service and half are the older ones. I would think sense I ordered factory direct it would have all been the newest stuff. What do you guys think.

Yes I will tomorrow when I get home from work. The new ones have a small flush set screw. The olds ones have a bigger Allen screw that sticks up.

It's a business you rotate the old stock out first. If probs arise, deal accordingly. You gotta think abit about how some of these guys are constantly improving and as I said if probs arise, take care of the customer.

I think I am happy with how they handled it from customer service perspective - offered the HD drag link with flip bracket at cost price, installed. I have 48 hours to decide if I should go for it, so all I need now is someone's advice - yay or nay ... I mean, are there any disadvantages of having this over stock ?

Hi again,
I located Allen screws on joints in the front and rear track bar, flush set screws on front LCAs, Allen set screw on third link (control arm that is connected to axle truss) and didn't find anything on the rear LCAa... So yeah, looks like my kit is a mix and match as well.

Sir,

Glad to hear you got this squared away with the shop! And yes some of our stocking dealers do have old stock sometimes, once we update something it is up to them to either sell the old stock off at the old price or purchase the new/updated componants and sell it for the new price. We did indeed decide to start including the ultimate steering kit parts (drag link/flip kit/front track bar brackets) in our long arm setups because we felt it would improve them ever so much. With the addition of these parts there was a price increase also, so as long as you didn't pay the new price for the old kit then you recieved exactly what was paid for. The drag link is a great addition to the long arm setup so if they were willing to cut you a deal to the new pricing then it is probably worth it.

Thanks,
RK

Sir,

That was around the time frame that we switched from the 3/4 hiem to our new 7/8 hiem. It is very possible that when your kit was packed we had a new style front track bar and an old style rear track bar on the shelf that was getting rotated out of stock. As far as our Krawler joints go which arms have the older style? and which the newer? It would make sense that the lowers may be the newer style and the uppers the older due to the fact that our 1" shank Monster Krawler housing came in before the 7/8" shank Krawler joints did for the uppers. Either way we havent had any problems with any of the older style joints that you have in your kit we only redesigned them to make them maintinance free. You can always upgrade the others if you would like to!

Thanks,
RK
