so i've heard and read plenty about re-gearing due to larger tires. and all the other issues with more weight from large tire/wheel combo. now I've been thinking about this... am i way off on this?

currently i have the stock sahara 18" rims and the stock tires which are about 32". they way I'm thinking about it will I even see much of a weight difference if I drop down to 15" alloy and larger tires say 35's? the drop in weight from an 18" rim to a 15" should more than make up for the slightly larger tire right? I guess the only real way of doing this would be to get all the various wieghts and calculate ... thoughts, rants, flames?

you know I just read through another thread that kind of explains some of this.. sorry for the post.. mods please delete.

Well, the difference on weight from the alloy 18's to alloy 15's isn't going to make up for the difference in tire weight, from 32" to 35", depending on brand of tire will be somewhat more significant. Not enough to offset the difference anyway.
There's others on here that can prob give you actual figures based on their experience though.

I had a similar question. I just got 15" alloys with Goodyear mtr 35s. They don't feel much heavier than stock. I was wondering the difference in weight because I don't want to upgrade the spare tire mount to a whole rear bumper and tire carrier just yet. Since they didn't feel much different I just used the MBRP reinforcement brackets for now. Any thoughts?
