Default I tore my rear driveshaft boot today

Took the kids up for a run on Fordyce today and tore my rear driveshaft boot on my 2012 JKU. I do not see thing leaking and I read elsewhere some guys have run that way for a while. Is this a critical part? I am sure Chrysler would rape me for this part.

I have no idea if its critical or not, sorry. You could always take it out if your in a jam and drive in 4 wheel high. I wouldn't replace it with another stock driveshaft if you go to get a new one though. You might find a used one on the forum if money is tight.

You should be able to run for awhile with it like that. Just start saving for a new drive shaft and in the mean time run it like that. No worries.

You are fine to run it for a while but it will eventually fail. I tore mine as well.

Fix is to move the evap skid over about 2" ... takes about 10 minutes. Dealer will charge over $800 for an OEM one.

You can find take offs on the forum. The 2012 is a slightly different length than the previous years.

Ironically I think I'll have one for you next week if you want it. Long story, but I bought one and don't need it. I'm just over the hill in Reno.

Great ideas. I think running it a while and expect to replace if I have to. If I can grab a take off would make sense. Do you get this way often, perhaps for some Rubicon runs?
