Here's my hardtop I dropped it and chipped the corner, so I decided to fix it myself and repaint the inside and outside

Here's some of what you will need, I tried both fiberglass mesh and the short strand fiberglass bondo, the Bondo Glass worked the best

Since it was a corner I was the styrofoam as backing for the mold

This prep stray was the best I've every used, I use it to clean all kinds of stuff now, I used a auto primer and the satin black to paint the inside it took 5 cans and 2 cans of clear

Added the Bondo Glass nice and thick, the heat from the compound kept it from sticking to the styrofoam on the back

Once it was ready I took my time and sanded it with 80 grit sand paper. I was using my sander so it was easy

Laid of the Body Filler to get a true hard finish, with the Filler I spread it on the inside lip also to help with the strength

I sanded the entire top so the paint adheres better, I laid down newspaper and taped of the inside and outside. I made sure I taped all the small openings and foam pads

I painted the inside first, I took my time and did light coats until I got the look I wanted. It was around 4 or 5 coats then two coats clear

I took all the hardware of the panels before I started. I used blue tape to edge of the panels because I painted both side, this is the outside I painted with the truck bedliner and a light clear coat

Here's the finish. I did use a clear over the truck bedliner because the finish was just so rough anything touched the top it stuck to it, so the clear smoothed it just a little and made it look more like the factory

It took up most of the day, but It was well worth it. Compared to paying to have the inside and outside painted

So you used the styrofoam as a backing to keep shape, how long before you took it off?

Turned out looking good.... I used cotton balls to fill gaps on my bikes race body by dipping them in fiberglass resin then placing it in the gaps lol worked great!

Ended up bring mine to a shop, they did all of the fiberglass repair and painted it using GM flat black and it turned out wicked.

$400 bucks though, seeing the the paint alone is over $150 I think it was worth the money.
