Default What tire Not to buy

There are lots of threads about buying tires. I would like to know which tires to avoid, which are loud or don't last. I have stock bfg muds and they are nice.

Almost every review I've read on the Nitto Mud Grappler says they perform well, but are extremely loud and wear quickly.
Also, the Super Swamper Thornbird has a reputation as one of the worst tires ever made. They don't work well in mud or on the pavement, they flatspot badly and wear quickly and unevenly.

I had a set of Goodyear MTR's on my XJ when they first came out and with in 6 months had 2 blow outs. 1 only had 150 miles on it when the side wall let go. Goodyear wouldn't warranty the tire even with the road hazard protection because they said the Jeep was altered from stock. Needless to say they didn't mention this at the time they were putting the tires on and taking my money. That was the last time I will ever do business with Goodyear.

Pro Comp A/T's. Tread looks exactly like BFG A/T's. I had 33x12.5's on 17x9in wheels. They would not stay ballanced for shit and were louder than my new KM2's when they reached 35k miles. Way undersized in diameter also.

I was almost about to buy a set of the MTR's w/Kevlar when I found out they're nearly impossible to balance and keep balanced. I'll stick with my BFG Krawlers. Great tire!

To each their own, my 35's have balanced perfectly and are wearing evenly in the year I've had them on.

I agree, I wouldn't buy them again. Had a balance issue with one tire that I just did beads with, 35x12.5x17s aren't a heavy enough tire for a JK. Off road they are fine and have performed well. On road they have been a struggle as I need to have a ton of air in them to mitigate the sidewall sway.

If I would have bought the MTR w/Kevlar in a different size, for instance the LT315/70R17 vs the 35x12.5x17 I don't think that I would have had an issue outside of balancing one of the 5 tires. If I didn't already have them siped before I had them mounted I also would have just returned it. It really boils down to just an issue with a lot of their tires having low service descriptions for a relatively heavy vehicle, especially when you start adding accessories and armor.
