I usually only get my oil changed in my commuter car because I have to have it done so often and I use a coupon printed off the website it usually runs me 20 to 25 bucks as long as I can dodge all the unnessary up selling.
So today I'm in a hurry heading out of town for a day trip in the 2012 so I better get the original oil out of my baby before we hit the road.
The guy said will that be cash or credit card and I replied well that depends how much it is. He said it should be around 52 bucks!! I thought wow I just got taken. Then the tech said its a cartridge filter boss so it's a extra 10 bucks!!
62 bucks out the door!! I was furious!! I will be doing my own from now on on the Jeep!
Anyone got a good line on those filters??

 

my SRT8 had 7 quart pan, factory fill requires Mobil 1 or Pennzoil Platinum.

oil + filter & labor at $35.00 = $95

 

I use mobile 1 full synthetic. Costs me about 35.00 doing it myself using a napa gold filter.

 

Freightliner Sportchassis = 32 Quarts + Filter = $175 per change...

 

In my opinion it should be cheaper in the 2012 jeep. So easy to do. The cartridge filter is simple to change and you don't get oil running down your arm. The dealer only charged me $8.50 to purchase the filter. I read on hear you can get a deal on WIX I think it was something like 3 filters for $18. I used conventional oil so my change cost me about $30. I will wait until around 10,000 miles before switching to synthetic.

 

Mobil 1 Oil & Filter - $45, piece of mind by doing it yourself - priceless.

Thats odd... a cartridge filter should be the same cost as a regular 'good' filter.

I've paid a bunch for oil changes here and there. I think my max was around $50 - but they WERE quick!

I go back and forth between getting frustrated with having to return oil and deal with grumpy auto-store-workers, to having to pay someone to do something so easy.

 

Im wondering what kind of vehicle still uses cartridge filters.
Arent they all spinon?

 

I simply feel better doing as much of the maintenance I am capable of. I got ripped off too many times years ago before doing my own work. It is a pain however to deal with used oil. I recently had 15 yrs worth of oil changes stored in my shed. I actually had to use a vacation day from work to unload it all. Shops generally have a 5 gallon limit. I visited four places before I learned that my county recycle center would take it all. It's just a guess but I think I had over 40 gallons to dispose.
