recovery in reverce/ hitch question
I live near pismo, and want to go out to the dunes and pull stuck people out. My stock jeep came with ZERO recovery points. Now I have a steel front bumper I could hook up to, but ive heard pulling in reverse is hard on your gears. If that is true, I need a rear recovery point. I was thinking I could get the rugged ridge hitch, and buy a hitch d-ring insert. Is that a sturdy recovery point that will handle the forces involved?
Thanks

Free solution...
Slip your recovery strap loop into your reciever hitch and put the reciever lock pin back in locking the strap to your reciever.
Very strong and can't slip off. I leave mine attached when wheeling and just thow the strap over the tailgate.
Helps if you need to back into water to recover someone and don't feel like swimming in mud.

Yes, pulling in reverse is hard on the transmission. All pulling should be done going forward. One reason there are so many winches on front bumpers.
You can install a hitch and they make receivers you attach shackles to.

Alright thanks for all the advise. I'll probably go with the hitch option. Can anyone second the idea of just using a pin to hold the strap instead of buying a d-ring attachment?
Edit: however... one thing to consider is your snatch strap could then be rubbing on a sharp metal corner.
So strength wise, yes, safer... maybe not.
