Default Expedition One Rear Bumper and Rompalicious

Hi all,

I think I've finally settled on the expedition one rear bumper and tire carrier and, before I order, I'd like to hear peoples thoughts. Most of the threads I've found regarding this bumper are pretty old and I'm wondering how people feel it holds up. Until recently, I was pretty set on the AEV rear bumper and tire carrier but after seeing it in person I think I prefer the look (and price) of the expedition one. Of course, I haven't had the opportunity to see the E1 in person...

I'm pretty sure I'll also be doing the AEV front bumper so if anyone has both I'd be interested in hearing how they feel they go together. I was considering JCR offroad full width bumper but by the time I get it shipped and powercoated it costs roughly as much as the AEV...

I'd like to get it from rompalicious since they offer free shipping (saves $250). Does anyone have any experience with them? It makes me a little nervous that they don't have any order support over the phone and they didn't respond to an email inquiry I sent a day or two ago. Even so, if people have good things to say about them I'll be ordering the bumper from them pretty soon.

Thanks!

I've Great things to say of this rear carrier, some important and useful, and others just good to know and convenient.

- works with stock and aftermarket rear hitch.
- is full width, for protection.
- conveniently and smoothly opens with JK's rear gate.
- solid, sturdy and very well built.
- simple home install.
- no shakes or rattles.
- plenty of mounting points for bolting on accessories you might add.
- not cheap - you get what you pay for. The free shipping from a couple of suppliers helps.
- they have a Hi-Lift mount accessory, which I altered to diagonally instead of horizontal.
- they're dual Rotopax gas can carrier is (still!) in prototype form, expected summer release.

I have had my expedition one front and rear bumper for about 2 months now. Very happy with them. Look great and no problems. Install was pretty straight forward. There is even a video on the web of a full install. Ordered mine through northridge with free shipping. Mine shipped straight from the factory and was delivered on a big truck. I have a 35 inch tire on mine with no squeaks or rattles. Excellent product.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Nice to know people really like this bumper before dumping the cash on it. May go with Northridge since Rompalicious never responded to my inquiry. Sad because they are still the cheapest at 1400 powercoated and shipped. Mind if I ask which othe vendors offered free shipping?

I bought it from a non sponsor. Dave at Northridge is a sponser here, I didn't realize he stocked them until cfitz said. I've bought other parts from Northridge and has been great service, so I'd suggest him for reasons mentioned.

So Korsonian did you end up getting your E 1 rear bumper installed yet? Who did you end up ordering from and how long did it take to arrive? How'd the installation go?

Sorry, I should have followed up but been crazy lately...

I ended up ordering from Northridge. They seem like a great operation. It was in stock and showed up at my door in about ten days. I can't believe it shipped for free given the size of the package.

Install was dirt easy. Bolted right on with no issues at all. The only problem I had was that I overtightened the bearing on the tire carrier so the rubber seal popped out of the bottom. It wasn't a big deal, I just had to remove the carrier and re-seat the seal. No problems since then. I was a little unclear on how much tension to dial in on the tire carrier adjustment so that it would have enough tension against the bump stops, but not too much. In the end I think i found a good balance.

The thing ROCKS! I get tons of compliments on it and it's built like a brick s*!thouse. Too bad I put it on before my Smittybilt front bumper so I knew what an install on a well made bumper SHOULD be like. Don't get me wrong, I love the Smitty, but the quality and fit doesn't hold a candle to the E1. My only small gripe is that I wish it came a little further forward on the sides and matched up with the inside of the wheel well. No big deal.

Expensive, but I cant say enough good things about it. Cheers to the folks at E1 for making a great product.Click image for larger version
