i stole a blue-ox Aladdin all aluminum bar (their lightest bar at less than 36lbs) off a seller on craigs list.
the seller was also a jeep owner (08) and he threw in the base plates for an out the door prices of 250 bucks.

the base plates alone sell for 400.

the mounting has changed a bit in '12 (jeep mounted a 12v brake booster pump on a welded bracket) on the bumper/frame extension)....so some slight modification was necessary to make the 08 base plates fit....nothing a saws-all couldnt resolve....and once removed & cross member trimmed...the plates fit fine...and i was able to re-mount the pump right where it was to begin w/.

the tow bar is SUPER nice...very easy to set up / connect....perfect alignment w/ the jeep / tow bar is NOT necessary....just get w/in 2 feet or so and extend the arms, drop in the lock/pins and pull off !

it is a SWEET set up !

Blue Ox - Aladdin Tow Bar

i even towed it around w/ my f350 just for fun/testing....the JK pulls better than our 16ft car trailer !

Thanks for the info. I'll be sure to let them know. They haven't bought one yet.

Just set my 2012 JKUR up with a Ready Brake elite tow bar. It's a tow bar with an integrated brake. I can hook it up in a couple of minutes and be down the road. It going to be nice not having to break camp every time we go some where.

get 'em using craigslist but know when a good bar is listed it is gone QUICKLY...i missed TWO high-end tow bars because i waited til the next day to call (i wasnt necessarily ready).

search multiple cities and be prepared to drive to inspect and pick up the bar (quickly).

theres plenty of GOOD towbars on CRAIGS-LIST in the 400 dollar range, not all bad when you consider the the towbars retail for 800+

the base plates are tough to find even on craigslist...it seems most folks sell their jeeps & leave the base plates on....my guess is too many cant be bothered to remove 'em when getting rid of their jeep.

i made my own safety chains - needed a good 6 feet from the back of our coach (rated for 40k lbs towing capacity)...like too many things i do, the chains are over built (grade 80) w/ matching hooks w/ safety latches that prevent accidental removal.

i havent added the brake yet...i expect to go w/ an "air piston" actuator - i dont wanna deal w/ the "box" in the floor or stowing it.

surprisingly many states dont require brakes on towed vehicles (scarey)

Look at the ready brake. They make a brake that will fit most tow bars. There are no electronics to go bad or brake boxes to remove. It's just a cable that basically runs from the tow bar to your jeeps brake pedal. It very simple and can be hooked up in a matter of minutes.

I use the tracker tow bar that slides into roadmaster receiver on the JK

I leave it on , tied off to the bull bar it makes a great brush guard for the bush, and when it's time to leave I drop the towbar with the ratchet strap to ball heigth and drive up to it.

also I use brake buddy system it works great and many options plus a backup camera to check for a flat on the JK when towing

Note: Make yourself a tow key for the JK one with out the chip so you can use it to leave the steering wheel unlocked when towing
