Default I found a piece of steel and made a high lift tailgate mount

i was on top of the roof at work and found this 3/8" piece of steel and it gave me an idea. Super simple build- PM me and I can give exact measurements.

I drilled 2 holes in the steel (10.5" on center) welded a short piece of 3/4" angle iron on top, drilled 2, 3/8 holes and put the anchor bolts through and welded in place.

On the Jeep I removed the trim pieces and drilled 2, 3/4" holes to match the stock bolt locations, remove the stock bolts and replace with longer METRIC bolts ( aprox 2.5" on top and 2" on bottom)

HERES THE TRICK... buy 2 galvinized 1/4" pipe couplers and run the tailgate bolts thruogh them, they act as bushings or spacers and that is why the trim pieces need to be drilled so big.

Fine tune and adjust as needed, there are NO rattles and feels pretty sturdy (I wouldn't want to run the Baja with it but for streets and crawling in Moab it should be fine)

Also I have a very low garage door at 82", the top of my antena is at 79" and the jack is at 77" so when I put on the MOPAR 2" lift in a year or so I should just abrely clear the antena.

Very nice setup. Love it, more than my last failed hi-lift jack mount, lol.

I really liked the mount that another member did on the rear roll bar (horrizontal, up high) but it won't work with the soft top.

The more I'm looking at it the more I'm thinking of shortening the jack by cutting off the top few inches.

I'm parinoid that if I was to hook it on something it would destroy my tailgate.

I think that is any easy solution with another found piece of metal. And this is not insulting any one, but an old jeeper always told me to try and live the,"keep it simple stupid" motto. I like your mount good job my friend.

tires are not an option. I've got 285/70-17 duratracks and that is all the 3.8 can pull at my altitude. To go any bigger would involve 5:13s, a chip, CAI, etc. And there is no money for that.

The plan has always been to keep it as close to stock on the drivetrain so that I can pass it down to my son in 8 years and the lifetime (yes it's an '09, he was just 5 years old) and the MAX Care will continue , that it why we chose to do only tires (so my son could still get in the back without a ladder) and then when it's paid off we will put in a Mopar 2" at the dealer (flippn' expensive) so that everything stays covered.

Nice mount. I'm working on one that mounts through the center hole of the spare tire. I just finish one for my friends FJ, just waiting for a free weekend.
