Default LOD Door Linked Tire Carrier Question

There is a tire size limitation (weight) due to the factory tail gate latch. I'm getting ready to order a shorty version of the door linked setup but I have concerns that there will still be gate wear. Not the hinges but the latch. I'm wondering if the non-linked carrier may be the way to go. I know the door linked carrier has not been available for too long but are there any.pro's or con's anyone can chime in with about the door linked carrier?

I went with the shorty NON linked for the simple reason that I really wanted the trail rack. The linked version will no support the trail rack, and they will only let you run a single gas can mount, all due to weight restrictions and the factory latch. I am really happy about my decision...their trail rack is awesome!

I have the linked and love it. The weight is on the spindle and not the gate. As long as you keep the spindle greased it is quiet and solid. My hi lift rattles more than my carrier

Non-Linked here. Love it! Have a buddy with the linked and he loves it. Sometimes I wish I had the ease of the linked version.

I know the weight is off the gate up and down but apparently the front to back movement or vibration could take a toll on the latch. I checked Northridge, David doesn't seem to carry the shorty with a latch or non- attached. At least it's not list I his site. Maybe I should call. Still not set on which way to go.

Call Dave, I ordered mine in March, unlinked, and love it. I prefer the unlinked never really need to worry about stuff falling out the back if all you need to grab is your jack. Usually when I go out I have gear in the back and there is no need to open the tailgate and mess with gear that has shiffted and sliding out the back (not that thats a huge issue because i tie everything down) but things shift around. My 2 cents!!!

Default I want it all!

Doesn't somebody out there make a linked carrier that also has a latch pin to the bumper?

I think I saw where Rampage's new design does that? If it works, (and doesn't rattle too much) wouldn't that be the best of both worlds?

Does anyone have such a contraption?

UPDATE! (light bulb): Even better, have a handle to select between ink to tailgate and latch to bumper!!!

I'm about to pull the trigger on a gen III stubby as well, non linked though. For those of you who have it, does it rattle at all? And if so, what tire/extra equipment are you running on it?

I emailed David at Northridge, he said he could get either version I wanted.. I asked if he knew of any issues with the linked version, he replied none that he knew of. Now I just need to make up my mind on a linked or non linked..
