Ive been looking for tires for some time now and in the size (275-70-18) all I can find is load E tires which is 10 ply. Does anyone know how this will affect the ride, MPG, etc??

 

E load will give you a much harsher ride & the tires will be quite heavy as they're usually 10 ply.

 

I've gone E rated tires in the past (non jeep) and I won't go back. D is strong enough, and much nicer ride quality.

 

They also wear like shit on a light vehicle. Expect cupping and lots of steering wheel vibration after putting some miles on them.

 

I am in the same boat. Almost all tires for 16" wheels are D or E load range.

I know they will ride harsher, but a lot of that has to do with air pressure. Keep the air pressure at stock, don't run them at 80psi.

As for the comment above on wear, I have neveer heard of this being an issue. Cupping is a result of improper rotating or incorrect air pressure.

 

I run Load E tires, and love them on my JKU. I had Load D's before and wasn't happy with them for offroading. I kept slicing the side walls.
I don't think that the Load E's are a harsher ride, just set them to the correct tire pressure. Balance and rotate them regularly.

 

Lol this absolutely isn't true. This would be the case with poor maintenance and improper air pressure, as would any tire. My e-rated trail grapplers ride great and balance perfectly. They are wearing perfectly as well...

I roll e rated tires with none of these issues. My JK is as light as it gets, half doors, soft top, no back seat.

28 psi in the front 26 in the back.

 

I've got load e toyos and think they are awesome i would get them again and they dont ride harsh and no crazy wearing issues. Yeah they are heavier but I'll take that over a light tire with a thin wall especially while in the rocks

 

So I should have no problems if I run them around stock psi which is 35?...and the tire im considering is general grabber at2
