Default Spidertrax spacers with 295/70/17's on MOABs?

I've got a 2012 Rubicon Unlimited with the Teraflex Leveling kit on it and I am switching from the factory 255/75/17's on MOABs to 295/70/17 Toyo Open Country M/T's on MOABs. I am pretty sure I need to run spacers if I want to run this wheel/tire combo but my question is why does everyone that is running this combo run the 1.5" spacer rather than the 1.25" spacer? If the tire is on the same wheel and the tire is 2" wider then it is exactly 1" wider in each direction. So you really shouldn't need a spacer that is wider than 1" if you weren't binding before right? Thus shouldn't the 1.25" Spidertrax spacer clear? Or am I losing clearance due to the height increase of the tire and need the extra width to clear other things?

255/75/17
32.1" O.D.
10" Width

295/70/17
33.5" O.D.
12" Width

Thanks,
Kevin.....

you're misunderstanding the situation. the wheel studs on the JK axles are long and, while you can sometimes get away with just running 1.25" spacers, i have seen too many cases where the wheel studs prevented a 100% flush fit. this will cause your wheels to loosen up and/or break the studs and cause bad things to happen. 1.5" will ensure that your spacers will have a flush fit and avoid any problems.

Thanks for the reply..

I didn't contemplate that the stud length could be the issue. Makes perfect sense......

Thanks,

I'm running 295/70/17s on stock rims with 1.5" Spidertrax spacers. Very slight rubbing at full turn in reverse. If I put any lift in it at all, that'll go away, too.
