Mounting a 35" tire in rear cargo area ?
So I just got my 35's and I was thinking instead of mounting the tire on the tail gate I could possibly fab up a mount in my cargo area of my jku. Has anybody done this or seen it done before? pics would be great if you have.
that's exactly what i'm doing. so far have the rancho rear carrier delete installed with an LED 3rd brake light mounted to it. next is to fab a frame to bolt in the rear cargo area on a 45 to fit the 35" tire while offroading. i run without a spare in the city. roadside assistance and a tire plug kit will suffice every day driving.

You could get a bed mount prerunner style carrier from one of the Toyota sites. I had one in my old TJ that was even removable. It tilted up the tire on a 30° angle, but I know they have flat mount ones too. I also saw a guy once that just mounted the factory carrier flat in the bed.
My ideal way would be to go prerunner style I did that in my old yj and could keep all my 4wheeling stuff like tow straps and tools under the tire but I had to remove the back seat I was kinda hoping to that in the jk that way if I want to get to anything under the tire all i have to do is put the seat down and if I roll I wont have all the tools and stuff flying around in the jeep.
