Trade-in on a lemon....
Hi, does anyone have any experience trading in a lemon?
I have an attorney working on a lemon case for me and he thinks I have pretty good odds of getting some resolution from Chrysler. He says the most common settlement is that they'll probably offer me a set amount to go away and that most people who take this offer and trade in their Jeep for a new one (or some other model).
I would definitley get another JKU, my question is that if the dealerships can look up your VIN and see that there were issues (that they couldnt reproduce, of course) does it affect your trade in value and will they even want to take it as a trade?
The 2013 colors SUCK, i hope they come up with some cooler colors before my case is settled :-(.

People, chill out.
stephsh, when your lawyer said they'd trade it in, it's not like a normal trade in.
Chrysler will give you X amount of money toward a vehicle with similar equipment, etc. They just take your vehicle from you.

After reading, if you have any questions, PM me and let's talk.
I've been on both sides(dealer and owner of a vehicle) of numerous Lemon Law Buyback claims, and I'll gladly give you any advice I can.
Keep in mind, Lemon Laws vary per state...so something that happened to Joe Shmoe in Alabama may not apply to you.
All my personal and professional experience has been with Ohio law.
Good luck, and PM me with any questions.
Note: If you already have a lawyer, listen to him for your final advice.
I am not a lawyer, and I didn't sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
My advice would simply be from past personal and professional experience.
Carry on.

Ive been through lemon Law with Ford in VA. What happens is they usually give you two options...taking your vehicle back and repaying you the amopunt of payments you have made and at times they pro-rate them. So lets say you have made 8k in payments they may give you back 8400 bucks and take the jeep leaving you with no vehicle. OR they may say ok we will take your vehicle back and say ok we will give you a new vehicle..they figure in the amount you have paid..what your vehicle was worth and what the new vehicle will cost. When i went through ford i got a better optioned mustang in the color i really wanted and my payment went up $1 and I had 1 less year on my loan. How chrysler will do it...you may have to wait and see

Thanks Wendy :-D
It's had many little things it's been in the shop for, what I'm pursuing the Lemon Law with is a klunk in the steering. It's had the entire steering shaft replaced and still does it. I filed an AG complaint in February and Jeep gave me a 100k warranty, and the the dealer just started telling me they cant feel it any more. This is the abreaviated version, but basically I called the attorney last week after I took it to a different dealer and was told that my VIN is flagged for "enhanced customer service" and they cant touch the Jeep until Chrysler calls them back. Fabulous service!! NOT. The attorney only gets paid if I win the case and he says I have a great case so it seems reasonable to think there will be some positive resolution.

You're welcome.
And yes. I think you are doing the right thing. When it becomes time to trade-in or sell your JK, you now will have something on the Carfax report that will bring down the value of your vehicle. I'm not an expert, but my husband and I have bought and sold many vehicles...mostly Wranglers. I would not purchase something with a red flag on it.
Really, your JK is probably never going to "drive right". The 100k warranty does not cover all of the time and energy you've wasted. Plus the fact that by now you are so aware of the Jeeps ongoing issue, it will never feel "right" to you. You seem like an intelligent person and I'm sure you have driven other JK's that DO feel right. And the more miles you put on it, the lower the resale value.
I'm waiting for my 2012 JKUR and unfortunately there is an issue with some of the Pentastar heads and cylinders. Many people are probably reading your posts incase they have to pursue the lemon law regarding their engines.
