Default Stupid winch question.

Okay so I just got my new xrc8 winch. I know how to winch vehicle/vehicle, and vehicle/anchor. But what about using the winch for random jobs around the yard. If it causes kinks to hook the winch too itself, then how should I connect the winch to let's say, an old fence post I'm removing?

I know that when using trees as an anchor you use a d-ring and a tree strap, but I'm confused on what to do when not using a tree. Thanks, and sorry for the stupid question.

I'd say put a strap on the fence post so it chokes on its self and then pull away.

I thought about using a chain, but I didn't know if it would break??

Invest in a good quality 10mm transport rated snig chain. This chain comes with a loop at one end and a hook that locks onto the chain at any point it is slid on. Just check if your winch can be used as a hoist if winding out under load otherwise you will generate a lot of brake heat (bad for rope).

I used my winch Saturday to move some small boulders for my wifes rock garden.
Used the tree strap around rocks and used winch power to drag into place.
