Default Engine over heating need help asap!!

Went through a big thick mud hole while off roading yesterday, and now I'm having problems. While driving slow or stopped my temp gauge starts to shoot up. If I don't start moving or let it sit everything starts boiling. I noticed that my fan isn't turning on at all sink checked the fuses, connections, and made sure there was nothing stuck but everything looks good. Does anyone know what the problem is? Please? I have a 6 hour drive home later today.

You know the fan isin't moving? If you're sure there is nothing stuck in it maybe the fan belt.

I'm thinking it might be a thermostat problem. Engine doesn't know it's over heating.

See the link below. His problem was a bad Temp sensor. Other then that here are some things to check for:
  1. Flush out your radiator. The fins may be clogged with mud & debris
  2. Even though you check your fuses. Check if your fan does still turn on. If not maybe it got shorted/fried
  3. Check your coolant level
  4. Check your water pump & verify its not leaking coolant from the weep hole

Since you aren't going to test the actual engine temp, remove and replace the coolant temp sensor. It's not expensive, and is easy to do.
I usually don't advocate replacing parts without confirming the part is bad, but it looks like you are not making any progress on this issue.

same thing happened to me when i went through a big sandy mud puddle. A bunch of dried crap got caked into center of the fan and in the shaft.

i took a big screwdriver and "helped" the fan turn...it then started running and cleaned itself out

When i got home i cleaned it out better. been working fine since.
