Default Which Grade of Chain?

So--I have a feeling that my beautiful and talented wife purchased me a Hi Lift Off Road Kit for my birthday in 2 weeks. I know it requires 3/8 chain, but my question is: Which grade of chain is best to use?

Yes--The off road kit is an accessory for the hi lift that allows it to work like a big bad come along. There are two short lengths of chain tipped with chain hooks that attach to the jack. It basically allows you to walk the jack down the length of chain without slacking off tension, pulling your jeep along. Try "winching with a hi lift jack" on youtube--you'll see better what I mean.

If my memory serves me right Grade 70 Chain is the chain required for transportation ( tow trucks ect.) you could get grade 80 or 100 but you'd just be paying more for nothing, as those are rated for overhead lifting. (show business, permanent installs, ect).

Hope this helps.

Here (New Zealand) grade 70 chain is transport grade. Typically has a shiny gold chrome look. 10mm chain rated to min breaking strain of 12 ton.

That's pretty cool. I must admit I didn't know you could do that. This is a great place to learn a ton!

Does anyone know if the chain that comes with the hi lift kit is strong enough for use as a come along? Or will you need a stronger grade?
